This Health and Social Care Management BA/BSc (Hons) Top-Up course explores the role of the health and social care manager, including the individual who works in the health and social care community and the aspiring manager. The BA/BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Management (Top-Up) degree is designed for professionals from a social care, housing, health or nursing background who already have a qualification at diploma level and wish to obtain a degree.
Health and social care concerns the general wellbeing of people and ensuring that they are happy and leading a healthy lifestyle. Providing help to those who are vulnerable or need that extra care at home, in hospital or in residential settings, will give you a great deal of personal achievement and career fulfilment. During this course you’ll develop the knowledge and skills you need to become a confident, reflective worker in health, social or community settings, such as the NHS, Social Services or the voluntary and private sector.
The aim of the Health and Social Care Management BA/BSc (Hons) Top-Up course is to achieve an understanding of the nature of health and social care, research evidence, health and social care policy and health and social care delivery. The core of the programme involves the application of social and behavioural science disciplines and concepts to current core themes, skills and issues relevant to health and social care delivery. You will develop an awareness of the changing political, philosophical, economic, cultural and social contexts of health and social care services.

The students will also enhance their ability to work independently and extend their knowledge in specialist sectors of health and social care through selecting research areas which reflect their interests. Skills in academic inquiry, analysis, the presentation of balanced, evidence-based and reasoned arguments and conclusions are developed to meet the student’s educational and employment objectives. Knowledge, skills, motivation, personal development and employability skills are included to encourage learning and development for future work and life situations. Undergraduates are required to carry out independent research on a chosen topic area to complete their undergraduate dissertation. All students will be allocated a dissertation supervisor to support them throughout this process.
